3 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE BUILDING A WEBSITE
3 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE BUILDING A WEBSITE
Do's and Don'ts of Building a Website
Before you rush to go get your own website in your own domain name at that amazing price, let me raise some issues that will help you make very wise decisions.
Decisions which will help you raking in six (6) figures by the time you are done with this course if you follow it meticulously.
CHOOSING A DOMAIN NAME
What is a domain name?
A domain name is a registration of a unique online address. It is an address where people can find you and your content. For example http://www.domain.com
HOW DO I CHOOSE A DOMAIN NAME?
In choosing a Domain name for your website, one thing is certain –it has to be a name that gives a hint of the contents of your website.
If you find websites that have personal names but public contents that still rank on Google, then know that the owners are either professionals at their niche (what they write about) or they hired SEO (Search Engine Optimization. Read more) professionals.
Every Website needs a plan
The plan of your website includes the Choice of domain names and the goals of the website (Niche).
The Goals (scope) of your website is what your website is all about. What you hope to achieve with your website.
What do you want to write about?
- Do you want to create a blog where you can post about your experiences in life and hope it relates to someone out there?
- Do you want to create a website where you can teach people a subject you are passionate about, like Biology?
- Are you an Online Marketer looking to share your experience, teach others and make money while doing it? Whatever your goals are, your domain name should give a hint about your website.
For example,
- the Biology Teacher can use www.mybiology.com or www.Biocourses.com ,
- the one reaching out with her experiences can use www.myexperiences.com or www.mylife.com even www.myshittylife.com ,
- the “Net-preneur” can use www.infomarketing.com or www.howimadeit.com
NOTE: If any of the names you want to use are already taken, try word variants like using “make” instead of “get” or reshuffle the words you were hoping to use. Do that till you get is right.
How to Check the Availability of a Domain name
Use domain registrars like www.godaddy.com , www.domainnames.com or www.007names.com to check the availability by typing it in the box provided.
If it is not available, it will tell you.
Most turn red when not available and green when it’s available.
CHOOSING A GOAL
Your website Niche (Topic) should be your area of expertise.
An area where you’ll never lack content, where you can comfortably write at least 10 “unique” contents every day.
Unique here defines content (article) that has not appeared anywhere on the web with the exact same words or 50% similar.
In any niche you choose, you should be able to know a lot about it enough to write articles about it from your head and research to fine-tune it to standard.
Whatever it is, always know this –for every topic you choose, there’s an audience. You just have to be very knowledgeable about it because your visitors can easily see through you.
If you are knowledgeable, they’ll know and keep coming back but if you aren’t?.....
DON'TS
Just
because someone made money or got thousands from teaching how to make money
online does not mean that you’ll follow the same strategy.
Do you know why?
Because, you will end up not knowing what to write about. Most of what you will
write about will be re-writing other bloggers articles and converting it to
your own.
But
you cannot re-write the soul of the article.
Every
Original Article is alive and has a soul.
By soul, I mean feelings of the
Author.
Articles that will make the reader see through the eyes of the author; Articles that connects are articles with souls.
Readers
love it when they are able to feel what the author feels.
So even when you re-write another person’s article, you may not possess the uncanny ability to write with conviction and your readers will know because they cannot establish that connection with you.
You’ll be desperate enough to loose all the visitors that you got initially because they have seen the real side of you (i.e that you are empty, a faker!). Of course, they’ll leave you. So be REAL! Write what you KNOW!
It doesn’t matter if you
think it is boring, it will fetch you money.
WHY?
Because I will teach you how.
SPECIFICITY OF A WEBSITE
Be a Master of One and not Jack of all trades
I’ll
advice that you make the topic of your site specific.
Do not try having a
website that talks about different topics that are not related to each other.
That will be a mistake! Be specific.
The advantages of being specific includes
-
Population of keywords.
Your website will be
ranked on search engines for a particular keyword search.
E.g. if your choose ‘coffee’ as your topic and every content in your website is about coffee, like “origin of coffee” “how to make coffee” “the best Coffee maker” “early morning coffee”, you will find out that your site will have a better opportunity to rank in Google Search Engine for the keyword “coffee”

-
You will have time and
focus to write quality articles
If you are trying to write articles from different niche, you
may likely get confused along the way and one of the niches will suffer. You may not always update one niche as much as
you do the other. So your audience who want that niche will feel left out and
they will leave your site for a more reliable source.
This is a mistake one of my students made. He started this blog since 2010 and has not completed it up till today. Not because he lacked the skill or what to write, but like he explained to me, at a point, he became overwhelmed.
He did not know which content were vital to his audience and the ones that wasn’t. So even though he applied for Google Adsense because he has more than ten pages in his blog, they did not approve it because his website wasn’t complete.
It has been 3 years! And I must tell you that this guy is a very knowledgeable fellow.
He is a Computer Engineer and can help you earn online but he made a fundamental mistake. The scope was just too big for him.
What is the solution?
Well the solution is to split the niche into different individual blogs and try working one to perfection first before considering others. See for yourself http://www.cyruxsolutions.blogspot.com . He currently helps Nigerians study and work overseas because, that’s what he knows so well. You may be like him and can do many things but out of the many, choose one.
Having a blog with different Niches can be done.
But it takes discipline and extra ordinary skills Or a team
of bloggers. If you have friends who are good in different topics,
enlist their help in writing.
You may think you know all that but I advice that you do not test yourself. And doing that will not serve the purpose of this online course. So please FOCUS!!!
Now that you
know the do’s and don’ts, let’s continue with the course.
